Get Instant ValuationA spot-price headline does not tell you the final proceeds for a bar, coin, or jewelry piece. Unvault considers verified purity, net weight, product form, condition, and any collectible or craftsmanship value before you choose whether to sell.
24K is as close to pure as gold gets, which makes the metal easy to price and the item easy to misjudge. What you hold, and how recognizable it is, matters as much as its weight.

24K describes gold at or near commercial purity- marked 24K, 999 or 999.9 depending on the refiner and the market. Those numbers are millesimal fineness: 999 parts per thousand, or 999.9 for the finer grade.
Color is a weak signal on its own. Deep yellow is consistent with high purity, and it is also straightforward to imitate with alloys and plating, so identity comes from the marks and testing together.
Be sure to photograph the hallmark, any refinery or mint mark, the serial number, the assay card or packaging, and the whole item with its dimensions. On bars and coins those details do more work than the weight does.

Gold trades in troy ounces, where one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams rather than the 28.35 grams of a standard ounce. Most estimates are shown per gram to keep the comparison simple.
The baseline is pure gold content: net weight, times the verified fineness, times the spot price at a stated date and time. Gross weight is what the object weighs. Net gold weight is what remains once anything that is not gold is excluded, which on a mounted coin or a jewelry piece can be a meaningful difference.
The market also moves between estimate, inspection and sale, which is why every figure should carry its own time stamp.

The same gold content can meet very different markets. This is because a bar from a recognized refiner in an intact assay card is straightforward to verify and resell. An unmarked bar, or one already out of its packaging, will take more work to establish.
Size affects liquidity, since common denominations trade more readily than unusual ones. Bullion coins move on their mint and their condition and collectible issues can carry demand beyond their metal, though that is decided case by case rather than assumed. Jewelry and small decorative objects are assessed on craftsmanship as well as content, and an item still in its original sealed packaging is simpler to place than one without it.
