Yes — completely. There's no account, no email required, and no charge. You can use any calculator as many times as you like, and nothing obligates you to sell anything to Unvault.
How accurate are the results?
The melt-value math is exact: your karat is converted to pure metal content and multiplied by the current spot price. Accuracy depends on your inputs — an accurate weight and the correct karat mark give you an accurate number. What the calculator can't see is brand, gemstones, or craftsmanship, which is why a full valuation is often higher.
What's the difference between melt value and resale value?
Melt value is what the raw metal is worth if the piece were melted down — it ignores everything about the piece except its metal. Resale value accounts for designer or brand premium, gemstones, design, and condition. For a plain chain the two are close. For a signed Cartier or Tiffany piece, resale value can be several times melt.
How do I find the karat of my jewelry?
Look for a small stamp on the inside of a ring band, the clasp of a necklace or bracelet, or the post of an earring. Common marks are 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, or their European equivalents — 417, 585, 750, 916. Platinum is usually stamped PLAT, PT950, or 950. If there's no mark at all, upload photos for a free Unvault valuation instead.
How should I weigh my jewelry?
A digital kitchen scale that reads to 0.1g works for most pieces; a jewelry scale reading to 0.01g is better for small items. Weigh each piece separately if the karats differ. If your item has gemstones, their weight is included in the total — so the metal-only value will be somewhat lower than the calculator's figure.
Do the calculators account for diamonds and gemstones?
No — these are metal-value calculators. Stones are valued separately based on cut, clarity, colour, and carat, which requires seeing the piece. If your item has meaningful stones, a free Unvault valuation will assess both the metal and the gemstones together.
How often are spot prices updated?
Gold and platinum spot prices are refreshed against live market data, so the figure you see reflects current trading rather than a stale monthly average. Precious metal markets move daily — it's worth re-checking before you commit to a sale.
Do I have to sell to Unvault after using a calculator?
Not at all. The calculators exist to give you a number you can trust, whoever you end up selling to. If you do want a full valuation, it's free, item-specific, and still carries no obligation — you can track your piece's value over time and decide later.
